Mold Testing

Mold, while naturally occurring, is harmful to both people and their homes. However, people are often unaware of the presence of mold until they notice deterioration in their health. If you, or someone in your home, are suffering from frequent headaches or have trouble breathing, mold might be the cause. Likewise, if you notice your home has a musty odor, or you see your wood floors cupping, or you see a discoloration of drywall, cabinets, or boards in your crawlspace or attic, these are all probable signs of mold.

Call us immediately for a free inspection: 317-847-4537

As part of our free inspection, we will visually inspect all areas needed (living spaces, crawlspace, attic), looking for signs of mold and its source. We have years of experience and the latest technology, ensuring us the best chance of solving your problem. If we are unable to identify the source or presence of mold visually, we offer air tests that quantify the types, and amount, of mold in the air. Our Air-O-Cell test is essential in determining whether the indoor air quality is better or worse than the outdoor natural environment. These samples cost $125 apiece. One must be taken outside for control, and one must be taken for every 1000 sq. ft. or for every level of the house. Results are available within 24 hours.

Mold Remediation

How Does Mold Grow Into a Problem?

Mold needs water/humidity, a food source, and time. When these elements combine, mold will begin to grow as it is a natural part of the environment. The longer these conditions exist, the more likely mold will be present and spread to become a severe problem. If you find mold in your home or business, have it evaluated and removed by Funkhouser Restoration immediately. We do not use scare tactics in our approach. When you call our team, you will get professional advice and clear-cut competitive cost options. Under the right conditions, mold can grow almost anywhere. It can also be virtually any spectrum color: black, brown, gray, purple, green, yellow, white, etc. Often times it takes a professional to identify where the mold growth is coming from in the building.

Here’s How We Identify and Target your Mold Problem and Provide Solutions (not all steps are required in every situation):

  • Identify moisture sources
  • Evaluate the information
  • Removal of affected, non-salvageable areas
  • Treatment of salvageable areas
  • Dehumidification and Drying
  • Odor Elimination
  • Electrostatic Fogging
  • Air Scrubbing
  • Trash/ Debris Removal
  • HEPA Vacuuming
  • Air Duct Cleaning
  • Carpet cleaning

If Mold Is Identified

We will work quickly to remediate it. We use a highly concentrated version of Chlorine Dioxide, the same that is used to treat small cuts on the body. This solution both kills the visible part of the mold, but also boils out the root, permanently killing it. Bleach, often thought to kill mold, merely kills the visible portion of it, while allowing the root to remain and leaving behind a food source in the form of water (from the bleach itself, which is mostly water even when undiluted), allowing the mold to grow again.

The day after we have treated the mold with our Chlorine Dioxide solution, we come back and HEPA vacuum all surfaces of the affected area to make sure all mold spores, living or dead, have been removed. A dead mold spore is just as harmful to your health as a living one.
